Lash is a brutal bruiser and an initiator who eagerly starts fights and chases down fleeing opponents. Grapple pulls him through the air toward a target and resets his limit of air jumps and dashes, so his whole game is about getting airborne and arriving on top of people. A mid-air Ground Strike dives him quickly into the ground and knocks enemies up, while Flog strikes a wide arc in front of him and heals him for a portion of the damage dealt. The payoff is Death Slam: he connects whips to focused enemies, lifts and stuns them, then slams them into the ground, damaging and slowing everyone in the landing zone. He is at his best when the enemy team groups up, letting him pick up several targets at once. Playing Lash means being the aggressor: you lead the engage, dive the backline, and run down the escapees.
Strong vs: Lash thrives against grouped-up enemies, because Death Slam is built to grab several targets at once when they bunch together. He is strong into squishy backliners he can burst before they react, since a Grapple into Ground Strike and Flog comes fast. He also punishes anyone who flees, because Grapple lets him chase while resetting his air movement. Immobile targets that cannot dodge Ground Strike's knock-up and slow are easy prey.
Weak vs: Lash struggles when he cannot land on top of people, and long-range poke that punishes his approach before he arrives is his worst matchup shape. Anti-CC tools hurt his engage, since Death Slam's disable is prevented by Indomitable and its crowd control is suppressed by Unstoppable. He can also be denied setup when his line of sight is broken, because he cannot connect to enemies behind a Cosmic Veil even from the visible side. Movement denial matters too, as Grapple is disabled by Slowing Hex.
Yamato is a close-range assassin who wins fights up close, chaining precise sword strikes instead of poking from range. She uses Flying Slash to grapple toward an enemy and get into striking distance, then layers Power Slash and Crimson Slash to damage, slow, and disable her target while healing herself off hero hits. Once she's fully engaged she can pop Shadow Transformation to become briefly invincible, refresh her abilities, and fight at 60% faster ability speed. She has no ranged poke and relies on closing the gap, so staying stuck to her target is the whole game. Build her as a melee/spirit bruiser who dives the backline and snowballs off hero kills.
Strong vs: Yamato excels against squishy, immobile backline heroes she can reach with Flying Slash. Immobile carries and supports who can't kite the grapple are easy dives once she lands on top of them. Heroes that rely on sustained fights rather than burst struggle against her self-healing Crimson Slash and resist-stacked ultimate. Any target caught alone and out of position dies fast to a fully charged combo. She especially punishes heroes who commit to a fight without a real escape.
Weak vs: She struggles against long-range heroes who kite her and punish a mistimed grapple from outside her melee threat range. Dispel and invincibility effects break the Flying Slash connection, and Slowing Hex disables the grapple entirely. The charge-up on Power Slash roots her in place, so it's easy to interrupt, dodge, or trade around. Heavy crowd control and burst that lands before her ultimate goes up can kill her during the window where she has no safe dive. She also lacks reliable ranged damage, so she can't contest poke from distance.
Lash has the larger base health pool at 780, compared to 730 for Yamato.
Yamato has the higher weapon DPS at 63.216, versus 49.329 for Lash.
Neither hero is strictly better — they fit different roles. Lash is an Assassin and Yamato is an Assassin, so the right pick depends on your team composition, the enemy draft, and which playstyle you are comfortable with. Check the win rates on our tier list for the current patch.
